AETNA Presentation

AETNA is one of 12 macro-projects of the PERSEUS project (Projet Etudiant de Recherche Spatiale Européen Universitaire et Scientifique/ University and Scientific European Student project of Space research), initiated by CNES in 2005.

This macro-project is destinated to the study of electric systems (electric components and communication and supply networks) as well as avionics (embedded intelligence which corresponds to software), that is the "nervous system" of a launcher. GAREF PARIS PERSEUS association, CNES partner, is in charge of AETNA macro-project. It relies on its CNES experts, as well as external experts for this work. The objective of this macro-project is to lead the reflections on needs in avionics, to propose and to follow the associated student projects, and to guide them towards the development of real prototypes.
The promising technological realizations will have useful applications on ARES rockets.

AETNA fits into the logic of PERSEUS development and innovation :

  • Estimate and test concepts and innovative technologies,
  • Validate every stage by real and regular realizations,
  • Realize demonstrations of the developed technologies, on the ground then during flight,
  • Apply these technologies to future spatial transportation systems,
  • Write common specifications and recommendations to PERSEUS demonstrators,
  • Survey the quality of the realizations and provide a technical support to the student teams,
  • Validate the environment qualifications and tests.

AETNA themes of studies and innovation proposed in 2013-2014 to engineering schools, universities, and scientific associations, concern:
EMBEDDED COMPUTER, GUIDANCE, NAVIGATION, COMMUNICATION, TELEMETRY, ENERGY,
TEST FACILITIES, GROUND EQUIPMENTS.

The number of involved students/professors is about forty with ten projects in engineering schools, one project in University and two projects in an associative frame.
